There are lots of really great free sites out there. All the States have a collaboration going, breaking down each state by county, where you can access information. It's limited, but if you are lucky enough, you can come across some gems of information! Most of these sites have transcribers who post typed versions of Census Reports, Marriages, Deaths, Births, and Divorces. There are usually Cemetary listings and depending on the volunteers for each site, most will post all the tombstones with location and information on the tombstone.

I am a huge fan of Google. It's amazing what you can find when you simply type in a name. It means having to pick through a lot of garbage, but you might find others working on the same line as you and you can get ahold of them to see if they would be willing to share information, and in most cases they are.
